ABSTRACT
Objetive: To conduct a preliminary study to compare the
effectiveness in removing smear layer post instrumentation of NaOCl+ EDTA, NaOCl and Qmix activated with Endoactivator®,
Irrisafe® and Endovac®.
Methodology: 9 extracted single-rooted teeth were stored in thymol.
They are divided into three groups, one for each irrigation solution and these
in turn are divided into three subgroups, one for each activation system. The
canals are instrumented with ProTaper ® system and
irrigated with 1 ml of 5.25% NaOCl between files
using syringes Monoject with 27 gauge needle. Then
each group and subgroup are irrigated with the
appropriate irrigation solution and activation system. Finally, the teeth are
split longitudinally and samples are prepared to take pictures with MEB to
assess the dentinal tubules cleanliness. Subsequently these data were subjected
to statistical analysis. Results: It is appreciated smear removal layer in Qmix and NaOCl+EDTA groups, in NaOCl group, there were not smear layer elimination. The
ultrasonic activation removed more smear layer than sonic one. We found no
statistically significant differences between the sonic and Endovac
activation. Conclusions: We have to do more samples, as this is only a pilot
study to develop the technique, to draw relevant conclusions of the results
obtained.
